Ski Montchavin
Montchavin, la Plagne is one of the most attractive and stunning of all the French Ski resorts and is located in the Tarentaise range of the Northern French Alps on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. It is perched at the top end of the valley and has spectacular panoramic views of Mont Blanc. The ski resort of Montchavin has retained the appeal of a traditional old farming hamlet with narrow streets and charming wooden chalets, but remains perfectly placed to access some of the best skiing in Europe.
The ski area of Montchavin, la Plagne has something for all levels. There are two beginners' areas. For intermediates there are wide blues and reds and the blacks on the Bellecôte Glacier are testing enough for any advanced skier or boarder. The famous off-piste route down the North Face of the Bellecôte Peak is well worth experiencing - you will need a qualified guide to show the way.
In addition, Montchavin, la Plagne is part of Paradise Ski, one of the world's largest ski areas with access to 425km of downhill skiing, with 475 individual pistes, served by 141 ski lifts. Our ski chalet in la Plagne is ideally situated to give you access to this huge ski area. A few minutes after leaving the chalet, you can be riding the spectacular Vanoise Express double-decker cable car (Europe’s largest) to les Arcs, effectively doubling the skiing available from the doorstep.
The pistes down to Montchavin, la Plagne are serviced by 277 snow cannons. As many pistes in la Plagne are above 2500 metres, this ensures that skiing and snowboarding is guaranteed late into the season.
There are four snow parks in the area, including one at Montchavin la Plagne at the top of the local area and next to the Vanoise Express arrivals point. The Park has a permanent boardercross, a beginners' zone and lots of rails, including rainbow rails as well as table tops and a variety of kickers for all ability levels.
Many activities and apres-ski options are possible here. A unique evening activity is the resort's Olympic bobsleigh run, a shuttle bus to this event is provided once a week from Montchavin. Here you can try the bob-raft (a covered bobsleigh for four with no pilot), the taxi-bob (a competition bobsleigh for three people and a pilot) and the mono-bob (descend on your own, riding in a semi-horizontal position). For much of the season there is an 800 square metre ice rink just above les Coches (5 minutes via the free ski bus). The cinema in Montchavin has a weekly English film, and there are evening snowshoe hikes and dog sleigh rides and a swimming pool.
Montchavin has a club/nursery for children from the age of 12 months to 13 years (with the possibility of a ski course from 3 years) while the one in nearby les Coches caters for children from 6 months. Montchavin is the ideal location for your ski chalet holiday.
